Magenta and PanPastel and diecuts... / Magenta, PanPastel et matrices de découpe..

Today I have a tutorial for you...
...using Magenta stamps, diecuts and PanPastel!

A lot of tips in the descriptions, like the applicator to be used, the type of gesso etc.

*****
In general - let the background dry thoroughly between each step (if applicable of course).

1. Lay down a diecut of a clock on your background, and apply a sandy type of gesso over top, to fill up the whole background. This sandy type of gesso makes the paper to have more grip for the PanPastel, and it gives the background some structure at the same time. I don't have to tell you that the thickness of your diecut will affect the thickness of this gesso layer around the clock diecut. To prevent the gesso to seep under the diecut/mask, you can dab the gesso on. While the gesso is still wet, stamp in it randomly with a script (from Magenta).
Remove the mask.

2. After it has dried, replace the mask, and sponge with Panpastel Raw Umber Shade 780.3; I choose this dark color to achieve shadow as a base.
I apply the PanPastel with a big sponge, with enough PanPastel, with the result that the pigment will accumulate at the edges of the mask, to create a shadow/line.
You will also see that the script, stamped in the wet gesso in step 1, will start to appear as magic.
Remove the mask and fixate the pastel.

3. Repeat step 2 with (also) a (dark) color : Panpastel Burnt Sienna 740.5.
The script in the background will also be intensified in this step.
Important - fixate again!

Important - fixez encore!

4. At this stage I choose to make the script more visible, but then on other parts of the background. Replace the mask first and stamp the script with Versamark.
Also add Versamark to the diecut, and don't mind if there's also going to be some versamark in the background around the edges of the clock, it will give it more depth in the next step.

5. Sponge with two colors of red,  around an on the diecut: firstly with a metallic : Panpastel Copper 931.5 -  but don't fill the clock all up. ....
... fill it up by sponging it with a second red, Panpastel Red Iron Oxide 380.5.
In this step you can see that the diecut, the clock that has been used as the mask, also changes to beautiful colors, more to the fact that the gesso is toothy, and the added versamark.  (To be used in a future project!)
Remove the mask and fixate the pastel.

 6. Cut a stencil from paper, to create an open area which has the outline of the inner circle of the clock.
Lay this stencil down over the clock and stamp the cityscape (from Magenta) with Vivid brown.
This is an ink which is moisty and stays wet for a long time.
I use this ink for a purpose : to achieve a neat print of the stamp; a dryer ink like StazOn would not seep nicely into the textured background.

7. Stamp the birds (from Magenta) with Vivid brown as well.
Remove the stencil.

8. As the ink of the stamped cityscape will still be wet now, you can move around the ink. You could use a cotton bud/swab to remove some excess ink from it, and apply it to the outer ring of the clock, to add some more depth/shadow. Rub over it into the background with a finger to get an even flow of ink.

9. AND, yes, you would want to add another color into the background at this stage. No problem! Just make sure the ink of the stamped images is really dry, or it will smear!
Replace the mask of the clock and sponge with Panpastel Permanent Green 640.5 and Panpastel Bright Yellow Green 680.5
(sorry for the blurry photo, cannot re-do it at this stage of course)

 10.  Resize the background to fit your card, and adhere it to it. Fussycut the wasp (from Magenta) and color it with PanPastel, add it to the collage of the clock.

 DONE - easypeasy!

FINI - mon kiki!
