I love how the male cardinal goes such a vibrant red in the winter, thus my homage to the winged creature's bright beauty.

To stencil the background, I used the 5"x7" Small Birch Forest stencil and Cerulean Blue Nuance powder with a wet makeup sponge to activate and pounce on the colour. On 140 lb cold press watercolour paper, I started darker at the bottom and gradually lightened up a bit as I coloured up wards. Then, once it was dry, I added colour with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress ink and a White Stabilo All pencil and dimension by shading with a graphite Stabilo All pencil. Next, on a separate piece of watercolour paper, I stamped the cardinal and watercoloured the image using Red, Scarlet, and Grey Nuance. I added just a touch of Orange Nuance to brighten the beak. After the cardinal had dried, I fussy cut him out. Then, I stamped and heat embossed the Happy Birthday sentiment onto the card. Lastly, I adhered the cardinal in a spot that made sense for the cardinal's claws, rounding him slightly to give him some added dimension.

Pour faire le fond, j'ai utilisé un pochoir (5x7) et la poudre Nuance Cerulean avec une éponge à maquillage mouillée enduite de couleur. J'ai utilisé un papier aquarelle de 140 livres pressé à froid, j'ai commencé par une couleur foncée dans le bas et qui graduellement est devenue plus pâle vers le haut. Une fois sec, j'ai ajouté de la couleur avec l'encre distress de Tim Holtz couleur lin antique et un crayon blanc Stabilo et pour ajouter de la dimension aux branches un crayon Stabilo graphite. Ensuite sur un autre morceau de papier aquarelle, j'ai étampé le cardinal et je l'ai mis en couleur avec des poudres Nuance rouge, scarlet et gris. Et j'ai ajouté une touche de Nuance orange pour éclaircir le bec. Une fois le cardinal sec, je l'ai découpé. J'ai étampé et embossé en clair le texte sur la carte. Et pour terminer, j'ai collé le cardinal dans une position qui faisait du sens pour ses pattes, je lui ai donné une petite rondeur pour lui donner de la dimension.
J'espère que vous verrez quelques-uns de ses vibrant petits oiseaux qui ajoutent de la couleur dans nos paysages d'hiver.
