Treats on Tuesday with Christine - La gâterie du mardi avec Christine

Hi Everyone, it's Christine here with some watercolour backgrounds using Gravel and Salt.

I used a large brush and clean water to wet the rough cold press watercolour paper and sprinkled some craft gravel over the paper. I added fairly concentrated watercolours to the wet background.
The gravel causes pooling of colour and stops the colour under some to the pieces. When it was dry I stamped the image using Versamark and white embossing powder, and used the same colours to fill in the leaves.

For my second and third cards I used Course Salt and watercolour. Again I brushed layer of water over the watercolour card and then added colour. The background was a little wet so created darker crystal areas where the salt lay. For this card I used Versafine Clair (Twilight) and clear embossing powder.

This card had a little less water, you can see the salt lifted the colour giving a light crystal shape, and the dark areas are where the colour is absorbed by the salt so concentrates on the paper.
The image was stamped with Versamark and White Embossing powder.

Three beautiful cards Christine. I have not heard of craft gravel - interesting. It sure gives a wonderful effect. And same for the salt on watercolour. Adds lots of visual texture. Great work!

Love all three cards, Christine. Neat effect from the craft gravel - quite different to the salt. I prefer the salt one with the white embossing - because of the lighter background, and the freshness of the blue and green colour scheme. I must remember to play with salt again.

Oh wow, these are gorgeous! I'm with the gals, I don't know about craft gravel either but it sure made a stunning background. I like the salt backgrounds too. The color blend is so pretty.

A trio of beauties. Never heard or seen craft gravel... but both the gravel and salt give incredible texture.

All three cards are beautiful, Christine! Craft gravel is new to me, but it definitely gives a wonderful effect. I especially love the darkness and lightness of the watercolor the gravel created.
