Treats on Tuesday with Christine - La gâterie du mardi avec Christine

Hi Everyone, it's Christine here with a goldfinch image on a plant press background.

I found a pretty plant press background on Mixed Media card in my stash, the fern leaves had acrylic paint from a gelli plate print so when I used the leaves for a press the paint was transferred to the paper as a part of the print. I then stamped the gold finch over the plant press and coloured the branches with pencils. I stenciled and stamped the background and then re-stamped the gold finch, coloured it then fussy cut it to place it over the the original stamped image.
Whenever I fussy cut I always edge the image with a black brush tip pen, this masks any cutting imperfections and lets it blend with the base image. To finish the card I took a gold sharpie pen and ran it along the edge of the card, you can't really see it well in the photos but this type of edging really finishes a card. (see the photo at the end of the post)

Tips to edge your card with a pen -
  • Use a bullet tip pen to edge a card.
  • Don't use thin card or you may slip off the edge on to the face of the card. I use 100lb to 110lb card or Mixed Media card.
  • Be bold, don't hesitate as you move the pen along the edge 😅
  • Use some scrap to practice.
In the photo I used 3 different pens- the Black is a Bic, the Silver is a Sharpie and the Gold is a Dollar store pen (Forever in Time Metallic pen). This can save you matting your card if you want to keep it light and CAS 😏.

LOVE the bird over the fern impression, Christine. They work so perfectly together. And the paper pieced bird image over top of your stenciling gives the bird dimension and makes it him stand out. Great design!

What a fabulous card Christine and I love the fern impression on the background with the super stencilling and stamping, and the beautiful goldfinch added over the stamped one has given it lots of wonderful dimension, and adding ink to the edges also gives extra definition..I love the colours too. x
