Savvy Creations with Cassandra / Créations avisées avec Cassandra

Hello Magenta Friends! Cassandra here today sharing another index card creation. Earlier this month I shared an ICAD and why at times I like creating with index cards. You can see and read about it here.

For this one, I started with the leftover Metallic Mint gelato on my craft mat from the splatters on my last ICAD and smooshed and swiped the index card into the colour. Once I picked up all the leftover colour on the mat, I left it to dry as I turned to making the flowers. I heat emboss stamped the Azalea flowers with black emboss powder on a coffee filter and then watercoloured it with Mango Tango Nuance powder. While it was drying I brushed on clear matte gel medium on the index card base to seal the gelato background as I was going to stamp on top of it. While it was drying, I fussy cut the now dry coffee filter flowers and the butterflies from older Magenta patterned paper. Then, I outlined the butterflies with a black pen.  Next, I used Hickory Smoke grey Archival ink to stamp the script onto the background and used Black Soot Archival ink to stamp the Life is Beautiful sentiment. Then, I lightly splattered the base with black acrylic paint. Once dry, I arranged and adhered the flowers and butterflies to finish it off.

As to whether this one will become a card or an art journal page... I am thinking journal page as it will complement the last one making for a pleasing two page spread.

Happy creating!

Treats on Tuesday with Christine - La gâterie du mardi avec Christine

Hi Everyone, it's Christine here with some Quick Clean and Simple cards which can be used for so many occasions. I'll add the sentiments when I need them.
I used some of my smaller Gelli Plates to create some quick backgrounds on these cards.
I mounted the 4" circle for the first two cards onto an acrylic block. I swiped the gelli plate with some Colour box (Stephanie Barnard) Dye ink and then brayered the colours together.
The gelli plate can now be used as a stamp to create the background image and die inks leaves a beautiful mottled colour perfect for silhouette or detail image stamps.

You cans see the brayer line on the second one but to me it looks like the light shining through.

For this one I used a small rectangular plate and a dark blue dye ink, I also stamped the gelli plate with the love and music stamp before stamping with it. Once stamped I taped the edge to add the background sentiment stamp, then removed the tape to stamp the willow branch. I used a gold Sharpie marker to outline the edge before layering it on the card base.

Everyone who knows me a bit (and who knows Magenta) knows the importance of cats in my life. This stamp, in addition, combines my second passion: flowers!

I stamped it first on a rectangle of cardstock, centered so that I had space at the top and bottom to repeat in border the small flower design (note that the design is stamped partly out of the card). I stamped the flower cat another time for the flower, and a third time for the face of the cat.

I colored with pencils the complete image (no need to color this face since it will be hidden), the flower that will be cut out and the face of the cat to be cut out as well. After cutting, I curved the petals and glued the cat's flower and face with 3D glue dots to raise them.

A layout on a rectangle of cardstock with colors in harmony, and a touch of black marker complete the whole. Note that I retraced the word to replace « miaw » by « miaou » a more French way to meow!

Jeudi avec… Nathalie / Thursday with… Nathalie

I enjoyed decorating a long card, to fit into a commercial envelope. This allowed me to create a border by repeating the pattern of three flowers. For this, I first stamped it in blue, centered at the bottom of the card. Then, I stamped it on a scrap paper like Post It to make it a little sticky, cut it out and made a mask of it. I placed it over my stamped design. This allowed me to stamp the design again, left and right, while overlapping the first stamped, as if these new flowers were behind the first trio.

I colored these flowers with colored pencils applied with a little Gamsol for a watercolor effect. Then I added green pencil delicately traced at the top and bottom of the flowers.

I also stamped the central flower (the only complete one) twice on a transparent vellum paper, always in blue. Once the ink was completely dry, I cut out these flowers and enhanced them with white marker. I glued them with a small drop of glue in the center and placed them on the card, for a touch of transparency.

La seconde carte est dans le même esprit, sauf que j’ai découpé le bas de la carte en suivant les pétales (en gardant un peu de blanc), et que j’ai tracé au marqueur noir rehaussé de crayon, un motif de feuillages en haut des fleurs.

The second card is in the same spirit, except that I cut the bottom of the card following the petals (leaving a little bit of white cardstock), and that I traced with a black marker enhanced with pencil, a pattern of foliage at the top of the flowers.

Savvy Creations with Cassandra / Créations avisées avec Cassandra

Hello Magenta Friends! Cassandra here today sharing an index card creationI developed a liking of crafting on index cards after participating in the yearly Yellow Daisy Index Card A Day (ICAD) challenge that runs from June 1st - July 31st. I don't know about you but when I create with media working directly on a mat/glass board (be it Nuance powders or other pastes/gels) there is always a bit of leftover that I hate to go to waste so I always have a stack of index cards (some pre-gessoed and some plain) ready to use. I will smoosh, drag, splatter, stencil, etc. to use up the leftovers and have the start of a background for a future project.

Today's index card creation started as on of those background where I used a small sized card to sop up some Mango Tango Nuance from a mat. What I love about this colour is its colour range from a golden mango yellow to a its outer skin orange colour. Such a perfectly named colour!

I stamped the letter script with Hickory Smoke Archival ink and then stamped the Tranquil Buds using Unicorn White pigment ink. I added a dusting of white emboss powder to the almost dry ink so some parts would stand out while others receded into the back ground as it dried. I fussy cut the butterfly from some older Magenta patterned paper and outlined it with black pen. I match the mint colour of the butterfly with Metallic Mint gelato which I swiped onto my craft mat, added some water, and used it as sparkly splatter along with some black splatter. Once dry, I stamped the Find Your Happy Place sentiment with Black Soot Archival ink.

To finish it off, I stamped the date on a scrap piece of white cardstock and finding it too white, I watercoloured with some Mango Tango that I have in a Nuance porcelain palette. I backed it with some scrap sari silk fabric and mini stapled in place.

One of the things I have found with crafting on index cards (besides their durability to take a beating/soaking and 3 size ranges - 3 x5", 4x6", 5x8") is that I can create freely and then decide whether I want to turn my creation into a card or make it part of an art journal. This one is destine for a journal page.

Happy creating!

Treats on Tuesday with Christine - La gâterie du mardi avec Christine

Hi Everyone, it's Christine here with an easy mixed media background and this pretty bird.

To make the card I tore a piece of ledger paper and stuck it to some card stock using matt medium.
When it was dry I painted over it with gesso to mute the colour of the ledger paper which was quite dark.
When that dried I did a little background stamping along the edge with a script stamp and used an embossing folder to create some texture on the surface.
I swiped distress inks over the embossed area and added a little stamping to the background.
I then tore two of the edges to add extra texture, to make the edge stand out I blended distress inks around all of the edges.
I stamped the bird on watercolour paper, coloured it and fussy cut it out before sticking it to the background.

Ellie's creative Monday / Lundi créatif d'Ellie

As promised in my post from last week: four cards with one sheet of a monoprint.

I finished them off to be quite basic so I can add a sentiment when posting it to somebody.
White heat embossing, white accents around the flowers with a acrylic marker and a script in the background is what I did on all of them.
I tore the edges of all the backgrounds.

Treats on Tuesday with Christine - La gâterie du mardi avec Christine

Hi Everyone, I have a simple card using this beautiful leaf and a salt watercolour background. The Salt background was create by making a spray of Nuance powders mixed with water and spraying onto watercolour card. While it was wet I sprinkled salt over the colours and let it dry. Once dry I brushed off the salt. The leaf was stamped using Versafine Clair and then coloured with pencils. I framed the image with an offset piece of black card stock which was out of my off cut box. Frames don't always have to fit perfectly.
