Hello Magenta Friends! Cassandra here today sharing an stenciled ink blended card.
Following Jennifer McGuire's suggestion to look at your stencils with an eye for those which can work when using them as a mirror, I saw this butterfly stencil in a new light. I saw that if I mirrored it, it would look like a really large butterfly and thus this butterfly shape card idea was formed. Taking a 8.5 x 11 inch piece of white card stock, I matched the stencil right side up to the left corner and secured it with low tack tape. I masked off the three small butterflies at the left outer edge and one above what would become the centre. Next, using blending brushes, I applied Tim Holtz Distress inks in Spiced Marmalade and Picked Raspberry overlapping the two in the middle for a coral blend. After cleaning off my stencil, I flipped it over and aligned it along the right side of my previously stenciled part mirroring it so that it would make the right side of the butterfly. After securing it and masking off the same areas as before, I ink blended this side. Then, I filled in the bottom of the butterfly's wings with two small butterflies on each side and then a mid sized and small one in the upper mid centre filling in a gapped space.
Next, I used a scrap piece of 8.5 x 11 printer paper and once again aligning the stencil right side up to the top left corner, I used the residual ink from my blending brush to make a faint stenciled image. Then, I folded it at the right edge of the image to make the midline of the butterfly. I hand drew along the edge until I was pleased with the butterfly shape and then cut it out. Next, I used the negative space to align it with my fully ink blended butterfly image and lightly drew the butterfly shape and cut it out giving me a 6 x 7 inch butterfly. Then, I cut a 12 x 7 inch piece of cardstock scoring it at the 6 inch mark to give me a 6 x 7 inch card base which I traced and cut out the shaped base being sure to leave the fold at the top in-tacked. I distressed the edges of the butterfly with scissors and used an Stardust Gelly Roll pen to outline and detail the butterflies. After adhering it to the card base, I heat embossed stamped the sentiment.
