Treats on Tuesday with Christine - La gâterie du mardi avec Christine

Hi Everyone, I have a couple of Gesso'd Christmas cards for you today. I thought it would be good to get going on my stash as there's only four and a half months left, OMG where has the year gone.

For the first card I stamped the Christmas script background in Delicata Gold ink and heat set it. When the ink was dry I placed the stencil over the background and lightly sponged gesso over the stencil. The Gesso will be used to brighten the Distress Oxide ink against the black background. Just a note with gesso less is better and build up the colour slowly, too much and it will seep under the stencil. When the gesso dried I cleaned the stencil and use blending brushes to apply the Distress Oxide ink. I used a Molotow Liquid Chrome Paint pen for the ornament cap and loop. The sentiment was stamped with Versamark and Platinum Embossing Powder heat set, I then used a gold pen to outline the edge of the sentiment.

For the second card I used Gesso as a resist. I stamped the background with Delicata gold and when the ink was dry I sponged gesso over the poinsettia stencil. I used a heat gun to dry the gesso before blending Distress Oxide inks over the image. I used 3 colours of blue to give an Ombre effect. I heat dried the Distress Oxide inks then took a damp piece of kitchen paper and wiped the ink off the Gesso. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat set Platinum Embossing powder. To finish the card off I used tiny sequins.

Two beautiful Christmas cards! The gesso makes the colors stand out beautifully on the ornament and works as a great resist for the poinsettias.

The script stamped in gold is beautiful. A gorgeous ornament too. I thought I was doing so well having made several Christmas cars already, but your comment about only four months snapped me back to reality. Gosh, it sneaks up on me every year. Your poinsettia card stole my breath. I love it and the ombre look.

I don’t know how I missed this one but your techniques are fabulous! Love the ornament on black with gold script in the background and your poinsettia card really is special. What a beautiful and ethereal effect with your ombre background. Two gorgeous cards.
